perspective

It's late...1:47am and I'm awake. Don't know why, but I felt compelled to blog about some things I came across today.

Amazing! for those that did not know, I've been typing on a brand new laptop because my previous one was stolen out of my apartment from a wandering Philadelpian that saw an opportunity and took it. So, i lost a lot of my bookmarks lol i know! you probably thought i was going to say my writing. But no, i do not save anything to my computer when it comes to my writing...my words stick with me ALWAYS and they are on my handy dandy flash drive. :D

Anyway, there was this clothing line that i thought was MAD dope! They are out of BROOKLYN, NY..called Coup d'etet BK...so fresh! This is their mission: coup d'etat, BROOKLYN is a graphically-bold design company based in Bed-Stuy whose philosophy follows one simple rule: "live to change something." The brand's founders, Daoud Abeid & Rasu Jilani, created the t-shirt line to manifest visual ideas and life philosophies into eye-catching designs that people, no matter their creed, can truly feel.

I think that their mission is definitely needed..we need to begin to spark people's minds and get their attention with slogans and products that matter! So, I'm going to purchase this shirt... dope, right?!
So anyway..i think that their slogan, "Live to Change Something" hit me tonight..am i? I hope so..and I definitely want to with my upcoming project...so stay with me. :)

Sidebar: can i just say that I love this song...damn, hmm..makes me think about....yo! can i just say again that staying focused when you want your thoughts to go elsewhere is so FREAKING annoying! Well, i'm out folks...its late..gotta get up early and start my process of maintaining focus on words/music/life :) gn,

HEAVy!!!

Alright! allow me to introduce a group you're gonna wanna experience...ahem! HEAVy...from South Jamaica Queens...this duo is FIYAH! more than just a pretty face and a hot producer...this is where Black music is heading..genre bending and I'm all over it. I'm good for finding artist that bend the norm..J*Davey, Imani Copoola, Kudu..MySpace them and you'll know what I mean. Artists are really taking back our musical roots...rock and roll, blues, soul, jazz...and fusing it together to make what many might call new wave, electronic, trip hop...WHATEVER! i just call it amazing. It's fun..high energy and lyrically moving.

*whew* i get excited when it comes to new music. Anyway..you can read up about them..WHoisHEAVy.BLOGSPOT.COM or www.myspace.com/whoisheavy

Alright, so the point of this blog was to introduce the beginning of ....*drum roll please!* KRYS and SIMONE's music calendar!!!!!!

Our first show will be February 16th..in BK..experiencing HEAVy..and I'll be interviewing them after the show :D So..this is the beginning..it should be HOT..there will be pics of course and an article to follow.

also...don't forget Schememag.com's MARCH issue..that I'm heading...that will cover all the wonderful female artists out there...just got confirmation on Alice Smith.. :D

Well..as always..here is a track for your enjoyment...until next time...PEACE!

cool artists..a blog and random thoughts

so, it's super Tuesday! CNN has been playing non-stop at both of my residencies...Philly and Hbg. My fam is super excited about this and Obama has definitely become a household name.

Who are you voting for??

well, while you think about that...i'll move on. So, my homie aka twin Krys started her own blog..so i thought I'd take this opportunity to display the link: http://thisgirlsguide.blogspot.com so you can check her out as well :)

the blog world is BOOMING folks...everyone has one..but i guess the test is who's really talking about ish....hmmm

So, as you know...everyday I drown myself in music and writing. Well, tonight is a little different. I'm in think mode. Think back for a sec...a previous blog of mine mentioned that i was working on a female art and music collective. WELL! it's starting..yay!!! :D

Tonight i was able to talk logo/creative jive with my business partner in Detroit..who is sketching a design as we speak. It's going to be HOT! inspiration came from this... Erykah Badu's company logo...of course mine won't look like this...exactly. But, i do want the provocativeness...this is beyond sexy...and it speaks volumes.

But, chea! a female art and music collective...still working on the name. I have an idea...but i'm playing with the content to see if the name fits..ya dig? It all has to flow...at least in my eyes!

Sidebar: the title of this blog starts off with cool artist...ALICE SMITH..artist of the night...gosh i love her voice. Take a listen...this song could be dedicated to someone..but ummm..some things are better left unsaid..

And for you fellow hip hop heads...Pete Rock..fall asleep to this one:

and with no lyrics, click this one, it's definitely sexier lol:

back to working on my collective! goodnight :)

LUPE pictures!

The best concert by far this year, 2008 :) yup yup!

And my girl Nikki Jean...she was jumping up and down alot so her pics are a little skewed in view ;)

SCHEMEMAG.com 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

head to www.schememag.com and check out our anniversary issue...thank you much =]

the crazy adventures of S & S...part 1

I'm a sucker for great art...creativity, things that make me cock my head to the side..all that

So, it wasn't too far fetched that S and I went to the Philadelphia Art Museum for a mid-Sunday retreat. Because i studied art history i kind of knew what section i wanted to visit...Modern/Contemporary Art.

Mark Rothko
Pablo Picasso
Jackson Pollock

to name a few..

but the real excitement came from The American Collection! *dun dun dun*

...hesitant as anyone would be...the question in my mind was; What possibly could be in this section that would 1. interest me 2. fascinate me 3. or even remotely thrill me to the point I'd want to blog about it!

I was wrong.

In grammar school, history was taught through the eyes of an Anglo perspective. Christopher Columbus discovered the world..blah blah blah Native Americans..Thanksgiving, Sea to shining sea...you all know what went down..and when you grew up, you "discovered" the truth. BUT! this American section was amazing..not only did they display all of the LIES and DECEPTIONS in art form..BUT, it definitely was believed by other spectators. The view was unfair and biased.

I guess what was seen was the obvious, an American viewpoint of the early world. But, there is no section dedicated to sub cultures that had major influences as well. There is a European section and an Asian section but no African/African American section...or even a Latino section.

How could the Art Museum of Philadelphia not have in-house art rooms comparable of the people that live in the city itself? Showcasing a widespread view of the "early" world...for appreciators to learn the whole truth..not portions...

So, as you could imagine...S & I were shocked..verbally correcting the LIES and DECEPTIONS we saw. But more importantly, what we witnessed is why it's important to learn your own truth..and not just the "truths" told to you.

Needless to say, the art museum trip was educational, uplifting and we're definitely going back...so until next time!

S&S...out!

it's settled!

LUPE LUPE LUPE!!

Can I just state that last night was one of the MOST THRILLING MUSICAL moments of my life...

this is why i do this folks! this is why i love hip hop..

I will post my pics later (gotta go to work) my 5'4 behind was standing on her tippi-toes to the point where my feet fell asleep but i managed to get some hot pics!

The entire night was HOT..it started at ADIDAS..a private party was thrown to pop off the evening..Nouveau Riche performed..i got to rub elbows with the band..the rapper tried to pick me up :/ but that's not important.. Then, my homie Nikki Jean who also did a track with Lupe ("hip hop saved my life") who is the lead singer of NR came to sing three songs then bounced over to the concert venue because she's on tour with Lu..there were mad drinks..people and DJ Statik! (hot hot hot!) the whole pre-party was incredibly dope!

Then the concert..more on that with the pics..

After party! Silk City..my new # 3 favorite spot in Philly held the after party..N.R.'s manager and 215 Magazine's co-founder whom i spoke with and just might begin writing for :D was there...?uestlove from The Roots..and plenty of other philly known musicians were present just vibin' off of one another..it was chill

But, i bounced after about 15..was MAD hungry and S.C. stopped serving food at 1..so yea, we left and hit up a diner..

But, i am JUST now waking up fully...last night was great! Can't wait for another event..Krys..missed talking to you today on gmail..will text you lata :)

bff..thanks for the comment..i try! it's been a journey and I'm glad you've been there..

alright before this turns into a shout out..let me get ready for work..

PEACE! ohh and here is the song i lost my voice to! ha ha :D
